The Westbrook American reported on March 28, 1962, that Gorham Teachers College planned a building project to more than double its enrollment of 750 students. The college wanted the Legislature to finance $6.7 million of a $9.5 million construction and renovation program. The college evolved into the University of Southern Maine.
