Attended inauguration

Mary Fagerson and two grandchildren attended last week’s inauguration of President Barack Obama.

Fagerson said Monday in an e-mail she made the decision to attend after learning that her neighbor, English teacher Joanne Lannin, was taking journalism students at Bonny Eagle High School. Fagerson gave her grandchildren plane tickets for Christmas.

Fagerson’s sister, who is an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, lives in Bethesda, Md. Fagerson said the Metro goes through Bethesda so it was easy to get downtown from there.

“Since we flew into Baltimore Washington Airport on Saturday afternoon, we went to see President Obama there when his train came through,” she said.

They were able to get within 100 feet of President Obama.

On inauguration day, they boarded the Metro in

Bethesda at 6:40 a.m. and found a “reasonably good spot” in front of a Jumbotron on the mall in Washington, D.C., by 8 a.m. “It was a little cold waiting the three and a half hours for the inauguration but they were showing a replay of the Lincoln Memorial concert for much of that time. My grandkids were really excited to be there for the inauguration,” Fagerson said.

Her granddaughter, Sara Martin, told her the trip was the best Christmas present she had ever had.
