The Cape Elizabeth girls track team claimed two individual state championships at the Class B championships held at Mount Desert Island High School on Saturday.

Overall, the Caper girls finished sixth in the team scoring with 42 points. Waterville won the team title with 119, followed by York (109), Greely (62), Mount Desert Island (56), Falmouth 42 and Cape.

The Caper team of Kelsey Barton, Emily Atwood, Marita Stressenger and Rachel Nichols had a dominating performance in the 4×800 relay, winning the event in 9:45.29, just under eight seconds in front of the runners-up from Mount Desert Island.

Emma Hockmuth claimed the other individual championship for Cape, winning the pole vault with a top height of nine feet even, well in front of runner-up Chelsey Curran of Mount Desert Island, who cleared a top height of 8-6. Hockmuth also finished tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing a top height of 4-8.

Stressenger just missed winning the 3,200-meter run. She was just edged out by Maranacook’s Abby Mace 11:18.02 to 11:18.57. Nichols also had a runner-up finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:12.98.

On the boys side, Jon Bass scored the only points for the Capers, coming in tied for fourth in the pole vault with a top height of 12-6.
