Fran Roberts of Gorham said the Knit Wits of Maple Grove Grange in Sebago, is inviting others to participate in the Project Linus Make a Blanket Day on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The group makes quilts for the needy and has a goal to complete up to 15 quilts for the national project. Roberts said several members of the group have created quilt tops and the group will add fillers, backs, bindings and special labels to complete them during the day-long event.
The quilts will be donated to such places as the Barbar Bush Children’s Hospital, Bridge Crossing in Bridgton, Sebago House, Center for Grieving Children and the Ronald McDonald House. “Last year’s group completed 15 quilts and we hope to surpass this number this year,” said Ann Burns, community service chairman of the Maple Grove Grange.
The group meets at the Sebago Center Community Church on Route 107 across from the Sebago town office. Those attending should take small scissors, large darning needle and a thimble. In addition to sewers, the group needs volunteers to press, measure, tack, hem and label.
A local business will provide lunch. Those planning to attend should call Burns at 787-2489. In case of a storm, the date will be rescheduled. If a storm question arises, call Burns or the church at 787-2929.
