Tim Brigham’s two-run homer in the bottom of the third gave No. 1 Cape Elizabeth the lead against visiting five-seed Lincoln in the teams’ B West semifinal on Saturday afternoon. Brigham’s blast sparked a fiery stretch of Capers play that would eventually secure a 6-2 victory for the team, and a trip to the upcoming regional final with Greely as well.

Brigham’s shot over the centerfield fence arrived at just the right moment. The game was progressing into the middle innings and his squad was down by one. Then, with Nate Ingalls already on first, Brigham launched the ball clear into a lower parking lot and snapped the Capers to.

“[Lincoln] scored an unearned run in the first,” said Wood. “Then Tim came up and hit his first homerun of the year. Our three hitter, he just came up big. A big senior leader.”

In the fourth, then, they kept their momentum up, adding four more. Matt Riggle, Aaron Dobieski, Mike Best and Ingalls all rounded the bases in that inning, putting the team up 6-1. Lincoln would add one more in the sixth, but it wouldn’t be enough.

“Another big moment,” said Wood, “was when we had runners on second and third with two outs and our No. 9 hitter, senior Mike Best came up.” Best singled, scoring Riggle and Dobieski.

Brigham went 1-3 in the bout – but of course, that lone hit was a doozy. Teammate Brendan Tinsman went 2-3 with a pair of doubles.

Cape jumped to 13-5 on the win. They line up against No. 3 Greely (also 13-5) at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Joe’s.
