Coach’s outlook – We need to stay healthy. Both the offensive and defensive line is in a rebuilding year. Need to be able to control the line of scrimmage consistently. We look to go one step further than last year. We understand that the road to Fitzpatrick Stadium goes through Rumford.
Boys Cross Country
Coach: David Weatherbie
Last year’s record: 15-0, WMC Champions, Western Maine Class B Champions, state champions for both Class B and overall. Also, Cape finished third in the New England Championship, the highest finish by a Maine team in 30 years.
Key veterans: Matt Rand, junior; Chris Flathers, junior; Davis Backer, senior; Bobby Yokabaskas, sophomore; Michael Takach, junior; Nick Quatrano, senior.
Key newcomers: Reid Douty, freshman; Peter Brigham, sophomore; Sean Thomas, freshman.
Coach’s outlook: We only return one runner from our top seven last season (Matt Rand), however this group is hungry to prove themselves.
We expect to contend for a third straight state championship. It should be a great battle with Greely, Falmouth and Ellsworth.

Girls Soccer
Coach: Kevin Harvey – 2nd Year
Last year’s record: 5-7-4
Key veterans: Rachel Gips, senior- back/mid – 2006 All-State / WMC All-star; Carolyn Doane, senior – back – WMC All-star; Jill Smith, senior – forward; Helen Evans, senior – midfielder; Elsa Mullin, junior – back; Meredith Riker, sophomore – back.
Key newcomers:
Jennifer Hayashi – Sophomore – forward/mid – transfer from Belmont, Mass.; Kristen Kerney – Sophomore – forward/mid; Karyn Barrett, freshman – mid/forward; Maggie Darling – junior – goalkeeper
Coach’s outlook:
A key concern for this season is goalkeeping. We graduated a four-year starter and All-State goalkeeper (Marla Houghton) Maggie Darling is a talented goalkeeper but lacks big game experience. Our schedule could also be a factor, we play six out of our last seven games on the road. (this could be a blessing in disguise). In addition, besides Jill Smith, we don’t have another proven goal scorer.
Once we put all the pieces together, we should be one of the top teams in Class A. We play a very difficult schedule that will get us ready for a long playoff run. I wouldn’t want to play Cape in the playoffs.
Golf
Coaches: Greg Sandell/ Mark Aebli
Last year’s record: 8-2- Tied for first at the Western Maine conference championships and fourth at state championships

Last year’s record: 7-7
Key veterans: Bailey Curran, Colleen Martin, Hannah Towers, Emma Logan, Chloe Brown, Christina Ross, Lauren Donovan.
Key newcomers: Claire Jackson, Julia Springer, Gabe Donahue.
Coach’s outlook:
We need to see the field better, create more scoring opportunities. We play well defensively, we just need to be able to get the ball up the field and score. We have a lot of potential, it’s just a matter of getting them all to work together.
Boys Soccer
Coach: Ben Raymond
Last year’s record 8-6-2-Lost in regional finals to Scarborough
Key players: Peter Kelley, Will Russell
Outlook: Cape has started slowly, with a loss to York and a tie to Yarmouth. The Capers need to rebound with strong games against teams like Greely, North Yarmouth Academy and Lake Region if they want to make some noise in the playoffs again this year.
