Even the Eagles’ good (great, amazing) run eventually had to end, right?
No. 9 Kennebunk rolled into No. 1 Windham – the reigning State Champs – on Tuesday night, Oct. 27, for what any spectator not living under a soccer rock for the past two years no doubt expected would be a routine Eagles win.
Instead, the Rams pulled out a 2-0 upset of a team so good even some of its upperclassmen had never suffered a varsity loss – never, that is, until earlier this season, when Sanford actually broke the Eagles’ win streak.
Only Sanford and Kennebunk managed to score more than one goal on Windham all year.
The Eagles, who outscored their opponents 50-7 through the regular season, retire at 13-2-0. Expect them to return in full force – and two losses savvier – in 2016.
