Elizabeth Lamontagne will represent Gorham in the Cumberland County Spelling Bee on Tuesday, March 7, at Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth.
Lamontagne, daughter of Terry and Fred Lamontagne of Tannery Brook Road, won the Gorham Middle School title in a two-hour spelling bee on Valentine’s Day in the school’s auditorium. Lona Tassey, Gorham’s bee master, said Lamontagne of the eighth grade correctly spelled spectacular, the winning word.
Mason Roy, also of the eighth grade, was runner up. Tassey said 31 students from grades 6, 7 and 8 competed in the bee.
The three judges for the bee at the Gorham Middle School were teachers Melonie Doran, eighth grade; Chris Mitchell, sixth grade; and Donna Pastore, sixth and seventh grade. Tassey, who teaches eighth grade language arts, has been the bee master in Gorham for 30 years.
The winner of the Cumberland County spelling bee will compete in the state bee.
