As designers of the Lighthouse Inn Condominiums, we would like to clarify some misunderstandings which have surfaced recently regarding the conversion of the Lighthouse Inn.
The building is currently a 22-unit motel, located at the corner of King Street and Pine Point Road. The current building is two stories. This project will, in the end, create a more conforming use on this site by changing the existing commercial use to residential. The change, from a 22-unit motel to six condos, would also mean less traffic and noise in the neighborhood during the summer months.
Although this project does not require a parcel exchange, a land swap was recommended by the Town and received preliminary approval from the Town Council in February. The land swap would relocate the end of Pine Point Road 18 feet to the west. The Town would exchange an 18 foot parcel of land in front of the motel for an equal-sized 18-foot piece of the motel’s parking area across Pine Point Road. While this project does not depend on the land swap, it would improve the vehicular and pedestrian circulation, remove the seasonal barricades and remove the parking area across from Pine Point Road.
Port City Architecture, in designing this project, is keeping in mind the aesthetics of the existing homes in the area. We believe residents will be pleased with the look of the new condos as well as the sense of community they will lend to the area.
