Fifth grade students in Gayle Carpenter’s class at the George E. Jack School in Standish made a scarecrow to enter in a scarecrow contest both for judging at GEJ and also Standish Recreation.
Standish Rec’s theme was “A Country Halloween” and the class wanted to enter for both judgings. The class won third place in the Standish Recreation competition. All of the props used were brought in by the class and designed by them. Glenn Curtis, father of student Hannah Curtis donated the bales of hay.
GEJ students making their scarecrow are: in red sweater Mallory Brooks, behind her is John Gillar, Kyle Wright, Sam Rondeau, yellow sweater is Shyla Brown, then Shawn Welch, kneeling in blue is Hannah Hebert and Shannon Sanborn on the end; standing in back with red jacket is Dean Townsend, then Shawn McElravy, holding pumpkin is Jessica Ciampi, Kelsey Lambert, Erica Sullivan and on the end is Hannah Curtis.
