School staffer in benefit run
Jeff Mullin, guidance counselor at Bonny Eagle High School, will be running in the Mount Desert Island Marathon on Oct. 14 and he is looking for people to sponsor the run.
All the money raised will be donated to the Bonny Eagle High School Aspirations Endowment, which will help students visit colleges, take college courses during high school and fund scholarships for graduating seniors.
When asked why a marathon, Mullin said, “Running a marathon provides great lessons for students – believe in yourself and that you can overcome others’ preconceived notions of what you can accomplish. When I started training for the marathon, running 2 miles was very difficult. Now, anything less than 5 miles seems too short and my long run for this past week was 14 miles – more than half a marathon. Students need to learn to persevere and not give up when the run into early obstacles.”
He suggested that people sponsor him for “a buck a mile” – $26, though no donation is too small. All checks should be made out to SAD 6 and sent to Jeff Mullin, Bonny Eagle High School, 700 Saco Road, Standish, Maine, 04084.
