Haz-waste collection Sept. 14

Westbrook Public Services, 371 Saco St., has scheduled the annual Household Hazardous Waste collection for Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. As usual, the collection is open to Westbrook residents only and proof of residency is required. 120 programs, many open houses

The Westbrook Community Center is offering more than 120 programs and activities this fall and winter for persons of all ages. Among them:

Westbrook Community Center Music & Dance Open House. Visit Cambium Music Studio andor Brio Dance Studio, both located at the Westbrook Community Center, on Monday, Sept. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. Meet the instructors, check out the studios, enjoy some free demos, and register for upcoming dance classes (ages 2-8) and/or private drum, piano or guitar lessons (ages 5 and older). Also, enter to win great prizes. The first 25 people through the doors will receive either a free pair of drumsticks, free guitar pick, or a free dance T-shirt, while supplies last. Free snacks and refreshments provided by the Westbrook Community Center’s Starlite Cafe & Culinary Center. Training Your Inner Athlete Hydro Power Fitness Class at Westbrook Community Center. First class on Sept. 9 free. Take your high-intensity interval training into the water. Deep-water workouts take away the pounding on your joints without losing the impact of the training. Many of the cardiovascular and plyometric techniques used on land will be implemented in the water, providing a great high-intensity interval workout. This class is designed for individuals of all swimming and fitness levels. It doesn’t require swimming technique. Class will run on Mondays, beginning Sept. 9, 5:30-6:30 a.m., in the Westbrook Community Center’s Davan Indoor Pool. Fee, $5 per class drop-in fee or one punch on a multi-class discounted pass.

Fitness & Sports Training Institute of Maine open house at Westbrook Community Center, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Suite A-8. “Developing Winners in Fitness.” Anyone interested in learning more about the latest additions to the Westbrook Community Center’s Fitness & Health programs – one-on-one training, group fitness, and wellness sessions – should plan to attend this informational meeting and meet Dr. Jeff Murphy, founder and owner of FSTI. Free snacks and refreshments provided by the Westbrook Community Center’s Starlite Cafe? & Culinary Center. Also, all those in attendance will receive a voucher for a free one-time personal training session with Murphy. He has over 15 years of experience in the health and fitness profession, working as a personal trainer, wellness coordinator, university professor, academic researcher, strength and conditioning coach, consultant, and guest lecturer.
