GBCE annual meeting
About fifty members and guests attended the April 13 annual meeting of the Gorham Business & Civic Exchange.
They elected one new board member and new officers were selected. Trish Moulton, owner of the Dance Studio of Maine, filled the role of president when Judy Brown, of ABBA Video Productions, stepped down. Jason Beever, of C.E. Carll Insurance Agency, the board’s former secretary, agreed to be vice-president, and Bill Onorato, with Gorham Savings Bank, remained treasurer. Nancy Stedman, owner of Little River Flower Farm, was selected to be the board’s secretary.
Carson Lynch, new owner of the Gorham Grind, was unanimously elected to fill the seat on the board vacated by Judy Brown. “I’m excited about being involved with people who care about business in Gorham,” Carson said.
He bought the coffee shop in January and likes being a part of a community where “people care about each other and the town.”
Trish Moulton is also looking forward to starting her term as president. “I have a lot of ideas I’m really excited about,” she said.
The Board of Directors meets once a month and helps plan events like the Gorham Marketplace, Gorham Gala, and upcoming golf scramble. They will also select a businessperson of the year from member’s nominations. This award is to be presented at the May social held at Crockett Interiors.
Last year’s recipient was Martha Harris, owner of Natural Country Photography, who will be passing the plaque to this year’s winner.

USM breaks ground
The University of Southern Maine broke ground last week for a $21.5 million dormitory.
The 296-bed dormitory will be built behind Bailey Hall. Bob Caswell, a university spokesman, said the dorm would open in September next year.
Caswell said that the project is part of an effort to attract more full time students to the campus and to meet a longstanding demand for on campus housing.
Congratulations Ralph
