The Cape Elizabeth baseball team sealed its spot in the Western Maine Class B title game with a 9-1 semifinal road win over Maranacook on Saturday in Readfield.
The No. 9 Capers have won three straight playoff road games and were scheduled to face No. 3 Lincoln Academy for the regional championship on Wednesday at St. Joe’s College in Standish after the Current’s deadline.
Cape (12-7) rallied to top No. 8 Lisbon 12-9 in a prelim game on June 10, then knocked off No. 1 York 5-2 in the quarterfinals last Thursday.
Against Maranacook, Cape fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but scored four in the third inning and five more in the fifth. Cape starter Conor Moloney limited Maranacook to one hit as he worked a complete game.
The Capers have won 13 Western Maine championships, the last coming in 2004 when they also defeated Hermon 6-2 for the Class B state title, the school’s 10th baseball state championship.
