Jack Prince has finished among the top four racers in Gorham’s first two Alpine ski meets of the season, while the girls’ squad has a pair of second-place finishes behind two top 10 runs from Danielle Moody.

With 19 members, the most ever for Rams skiing, the teams are “blasting out of the starting gate,” according to coach Tom Patterson, despite the lack of snow.

Gorham’s girls took second on Jan. 6 at Shawnee Peak, just 10 points behind Marshwood (33) and ahead of Cheverus (47) and Windham (58). Sally Patterson finished fifth for the Lady Rams, while Moody was eighth and Jennie Wiacek took ninth.

The boys finished with 78 points at that meet, behind Cheverus (15) and Windham (42), but ahead of Marshwood (83).

One week later, Prince took fourth place as his squad finished fifth of six teams, with 74 points. Edward Little (37) won the boys meet.

Moody again finished eighth in the second meet, which was also at Shawnee Peak, and her team again took the number two spot, with 49 points to Marshwood’s 36.

Coach Patterson is pleased with his squads.

“Seniors Jake Nicely and Trevor Chase are not only turning in strong performances,” said the coach, “but also using their leadership skills with this young team.”
