Voters in Buxton, Gorham and Westbrook approved both state referendums in Tuesday’s elections.

With no local items on the ballot in Gorham and Westbrook, voter turnout percentages in those communities were in the single digits.

Question 1 was for a $112 million bond to upgrade highways and for improvements at various state public facilities. Question 2 was for an $18.3 million bond for drinking water programs and to construct wastewater treatment plants.

Buxton favored Question 1, 647-297; Gorham, 597-265; and Westbrook, 693-379.

On Question 2, Buxton approved, 503-434; Gorham, 557-305; Westbrook, 656-356.

Gorham Town Clerk Christina Silberman reported that 863 ballots were cast. In District 1, 338 ballots were cast; 284 in District 2; 191 in District 3 and 50 at central.

In Westbrook, voters cast 1,017 ballots, including five blanks on each question. In Ward 1, 122 ballots were cast; 160 in Ward 2; 99 in Ward 3; 87 in Ward 4; 230 in Ward 5 and 310 at central.

Buxton Town Clerk John Myers said 949 ballots were cast in Buxton, a 15.8 percent turnout. Silberman reported a 7 percent voter turnout in Gorham and Ruth Noble, Westbrook deputy city clerk, said Westbrook’s turnout was also 7 percent.
