Public Cable Company has begun cable casting public events in Gorham, calling itself GO-CAT 20. Volunteers do the work.

The state license for the S. D. Warren paper mill’s biomass-fired boiler in Westbrook is 40 pages. When at least 50 percent of the fuel is from the forests, the rest can be coal of higher sulfur content.

Gorham is leasing 20 acres for five years on the Huston Road to Claude Daigle and son, who will grow potatoes there. On the land are the town garage and dump. The Daigles will pay $20 an acre a year.

An 18-year-old man from Winthrop, Mass., was water-skiing nude on Collins Pond, Windham. Chased by a police officer in a borrowed boat, he was arrested and his stepsister and a man were charged with interfering in his arrest.

Standish will vote in November on whether to end its town council-manager government.

Gorham’s Planning Board has approved plans of Regional Waste Systems for a landfill and recycling center on the Ross Grant property at Mosher’s Corner.

Two petition drives are under way in Westbrook. One would return to 13 (instead of 7) members of the City Council. The other would end the city’s membership in the Council of Governments. Alfred E. Porell is a leader in the petition drives.

Cumberland Farms denies a rumor that it is selling stores in this area to Irving Oil.

The $4.5 million Springbrook Nursing Care Center at 300 Spring St., Westbrook opened Friday. It is owned by the Sandy River Alliance Nursing Care Centers.

Using a torch, someone cut loose and stole the axles of a trailer being remodeled by the Gorham Fire Department. The trailer is intended for use to teach children what to do if they encounter smoke in a building.
