Pownal school reunion planned

An all-class reunion of Pownal Elementary School students and those who attended the one-room school houses in Pownal has been scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Pownal Elementary School. Those who attend should bring their own lunch, family, lawn chairs and memories. Tent, grills and tables will be provided. The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday.

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Mondays, July 13 and 27, at 7 p.m., in Mallett Hall.

The Planning Board Ordinance Review Workshops are Wednesday, July 8 and 22, at 8 a.m., in Mallett Hall.

The Solid Waste Committee will meet Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m., in Mallett Hall.

Church cooking beans for the Fourth

North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, is hosting public baked bean and spaghetti supper on Saturday, July 4, from 4:30-6 p.m. On the menu are three kinds of beans, spaghetti with meat sauce, potato salad, cole slaw, biscuits and brown bread, pickled beets and assorted homemade pies. Beans, spaghetti on supper menu

On Saturday, July 18, the First Parish Congregational Church 422 Hallowell Road in Pownal, will be hosting a baked bean and spaghetti supper, with settings at 5 and at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8, $4 for children 5-12 and free for children under 5. To reserve tickets, call Lois at 688-4433.

Music night set for July 11

Fuego Diablo, 52 Loring Lane in Pownal, is hosting its second outdoor Open Mic Music Night on Saturday, July 11. In a change of format, local rhythm-and-groove band Slygo Road will perform from 6-7:30 p.m., followed by the open mic portion of the evening. It will run as a folk circle with each performer doing one tune per revolution of the circle to ensure that all participants have multiple chances to perform. Spontaneous collaborations are welcomed and encouraged. The event is free and open to the public.

Creative world cuisine, including gluten-free and vegetarian friendly, will be served from 5-6 p.m.

Attendees should bring their own seating. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held inside, where seating is limited. Performers requiring gear should bring their own.

Yard sale donations wanted

The North Pownal Community Club is holding a yard sale on Saturday, July 18, and donations of goods are needed. Past sales have enabled the club to do significant work in the preservation of its historic building. This sale will enable the club to continue with ongoing maintenance and help with regular club expenses. School library open in summer

The Pownal Elementary School Library will be open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings this summer from July 7-Aug. 6. The library will be open from 9 a.m.-noon and features a family storytime at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome. For more information, contact Patti Francis at francisp@rsu5.org or 688-4832.

Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. If any farmers or others would like to donate to the pantry, contact the Rev. Ray St. Pierre, 837-0682, or Deb Larrabee, 240-1637. The church office number is 688-4938. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone.
