Settlers and Indians skirmish in a reenactment at the 150th anniversary of the founding of Gorham in 1886.

The statue in the photo was once located in the village square at the intersection of the present day routes of 25 and 114 but the statue has long since disappeared.

In 1736, settlers arrived in Gorham, which was then known as Narragansett Number 7. It was a land grant by the General Court of Massachusetts to soldiers who fought in the Narragansett War, also known as King Philip’s War.
