Jim Cronin, the new head coach for boys varsity baseball at Scarborough High School, will be part of the coaching staff for the Libby-Mitchell American Legion Post 76 baseball this summer.

Cronin was approved by the baseball committee of the Post this weekend, and will assist Will Sanborn, the baseball coach at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, withthe 76er Legion team this summer, according to Libby-Mitchell team GM Dan Warren.

“The Post is pleased to have Jim Cronin join Will Sanborn on the Libby-Mitchell coaching staff this summer,” Warren said. “Jim’s enthusiasm for baseball, on a scale of l to l0, with l0 being the highest, is 11.”

Cronin, a graduate of Bentley College, is a teacher at Scarborough Middle School. He plans to encourage SHS players at all levels to play summer baseball, in whatever league or program is best for them. “Jim understands the importance of re-establishing the feeder system in Scarborough in building a good high school team. He has already talked with the Legion Post about making sure Scarborough and Buxton have an entry in the new Junior American

Legion program that is being discussed for southern Maine. And he is in the process of organizing clinics for youth baseball players and coaches in Scarborough.” said Warren.

The first tryout for Libby-Mitchell will be 4 p.m. Sunday April 29. The location will be announced soon, and will be influenced by weather.
