Red hatters celebrate

About 30 members and guests of the local Chickadee Roses chapter donned their red hats at the group’s annual summer pool party at Rita Casey’s on Mosher Road.

“It’s a great way for women to reconnect,” said Jeanette DiPietrantonio of Gorham, queen of the local chapter, about the group.

Membership in Red Hat groups is for women over 50. They wear red hats and purple clothes. Younger women attending wear pink hats and lavender outfits.

This year’s get-together had a Hawaiian theme, guests came from area communities like Old Orchard Beach and as far away as Michigan and Florida. DiPietrantonio said there’s a different theme for the party each year.

Carver worked at S.D. Warren for 32 years, 12 of those as president of Local 1069. The past 14 years, he has worked as an international representative for United Paper Workers/PACE Union.

The rain didn’t effect the party, which was held under a tent. The party included speeches and a roast.

Carver, who was aware of the party, thought it would be just family attending. He was surprised when friends and co-workers arrived. Carver hadn’t seen some of the guests for 10 years.

Everyone wished Carver well and happiness in a well deserved retirement.
