The town of Scarborough will hold its annual household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Residents can drop off their household hazardous waste at the public works building at 20 Washington Ave., Scarborough. Proof of residency is required.

Some of the items that will be accepted include fluorescent bulbs, mothballs, drain cleaners, furniture polish, floor cleaner, rechargeable batteries, paint thinner and oil-based paints.

Items that cannot be delivered include tires, smoke detectors, latex paint and propane cylinders.

Deposited items must be dropped off in a sealed container and the original containers should be used whenever possible.

Also participating in the event are resident of Biddeford, Saco and Old Orchard Beach. Scarborough residents can also drop their household hazardous waste at the Biddeford public works department on July 23 and in Saco on Oct.22.
