Your first paragraph of Sept. 27 editorial mentioned a 2006 Brookings Report and the term “sustainable.”
I nearly lost my cookies.
In 2006 a Brookings Institution group calling themselves GrowSmart Maine made recommendations for Maine’s future. It scared me because the results of these wonderful-sounding recommendations would have undermined our freedoms.
I believe in unalienable rights, the right to private property, the right to own land, etc. Living in the suburbs or out in the country is now considered “sprawl” by the so-called experts and is not to be encouraged.
All of this thinking comes straight from the 1992 United Nations Agenda for the 21st century.
Be afraid, be very afraid!
I discovered a website called freedomadvocates.org . It is the site for Freedom Advocates Recognize Unalienable Rights (which is how our rights are described in the Constitution). This group is “a cross-section of people from all political parties and backgrounds who are united in the principles of individual liberty, equal justice, and the Constitutional administration of government.”
Freedom Advocates reveals that the purpose of Agenda 21 in the long term is for Americans and people worldwide to give up their cars for train and bus travel, to live near the stations, and in multi-purpose buildings, in order to prevent the warming of the planet. (Does cluster housing sound familiar?)
The true plan, however, is for an elite group of power brokers and financiers – does the name George Soros ring a bell? – to gain power and control. (Gov. LePage has defunded Agenda 21 in Maine, but that doesn’t mean it’s not peddling influence.)
A Freedom Advocate, Cherie Zaslawsky writes in her article “Agenda Timeline,” that it is a plan by and for the elitist 1 percent who seek to dominate and exploit the 99 percent in an unprecedented global power play masquerading as humanitarian environmentalism. It would bring about the greatest transfer of wealth in human history, from us to them.”
This world government idea is decades old, but apparently they think the people are “ripe” for the picking at this time.
I am always leery of “experts from 50 miles away” telling us Mainers how to live. I objected to GrowSmart’s little plan in 2006 and I warn Westbrook residents and people in nearby towns now to be alert to the benign-sounding recommendations from Agenda 21, i.e. the United Nations, of all places. Things are so great around the world that I want them running my life. Not.
Agenda 21 is toothless, according to Freedom Advocates, until the local government incorporates the recommendations into their Comprehensive Land Use plans. Then the the recommenations have the force of law.
We have to be diligent in extrapolating the unspoken results of an adopted recommendation by any government. It is our right to defend our freedoms as outlined in the Constitution.
Remember, freedom can be gradually eroded until we awake one day and are not self-ruling.
