Class of ’54 reunites
The Westbrook High School class of 1954 recently celebrated its 60th reunion with a lobster and steak meal at the home of Sally and David Labrecque.
On the second day of the celebration, classmates enjoyed a cookout at the summer home of George and Roberta Morrill on Long Pond in Livermore.
Library open house
Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., will show the completed renovation of its lower level and display the city bicentennial time capsule artifacts at an open house from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. Light refreshments will be served.
Historical society to meet
The Westbrook Historical Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. Thatcher Freund will speak about the importance of family stories.
Seniors to hear Sanphy
City Councilor Mike Sanphy will speak when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 6, in the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St. Sanphy’s topic is the history of the city.
The seniors are planning to travel to Indian Head in Lincoln, N.H., on Dec. 7. Another trip is planned for Jan. 23-Feb. 1 to New Orleans.

Woman’s club tea
Westbrook Woman’s Club will hold a “Tea for Two and All Of You” to recognize how club traditions have changed.
The tea will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St. Those attending are encouraged to wear 1920s-period dress. The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Maine State President Marge Goodwin of Clinton will be the special guest.

Drugs dropoff
Capt. Michael Nugent said the Westbrook Police Department is again joining with the Drug Enforcement Administration and other law enforcement agencies to help citizens dispose of unused, unwanted and expired medications.
Old medications can be taken to the lobby of the Westbrook Public Safety Building at 570 Main St. on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
“The program is free and anonymous with no questions asked,” Nugent said.
This program is for both prescription and over-the-counter medications.
“We cannot accept injectables, hypodermic apparatus or illegal drugs like marijuana, etc.,” Nugent said.

Free household hazardous waste drop off
Westbrook residents can drop off hazardous wastes free 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Pine Tree Waste, 594 County Road, Westbrook.
Proof of Westbrook residency is required with a driver’s license, utility or tax bill.
Hazardous waste items include products labeled toxic, poison, combustible, corrosive, flammable or irritant.
