Over three dozen Windham High School alumni and friends will present the ninth annual Richard Nickerson Scholarship Fund Benefit Concert in the WHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.

The 2006 benefit concert is dedicated to Bob McLeod of Windham, a founding member of the Richard Nickerson Scholarship Committee who bravely fought brain cancer until his death earlier this week. McLeod had been a tireless advocate of the arts in Windham.

Alumnus Daniel Strange will both produce the concert and accompany on piano. The program will include vocal and instrumental standards, musical theatre tunes, classical pieces, and contemporary music, among other genres.

The concert will feature several ensembles, including local bands R.G.P. and The Gigawatts, as well as a cappella groups Naturally Sharp and Take 5. Other performers will include Melissa Bragdon, Jazmin deRice, Leah Driscoll, Adam Frederick, Gena Higgins-Veurink, Aeron Hurley, Derrick Jaques, Janelle LoSciuto, Bryan McLeod, Jennifer McLeod, Jonathan Miele, Andy Robbins, Matthew Ryder, Michelle Sawyer, Owen Sinclair, Matthew Small, Erin Sprinkle, Angela Thompson, Jessica Thompson, Tony Taiani, Laura Toppi and Chelsea Williams.

The Windham Chamber Singers will also appear near the end of the program.

Proceeds from the concert will support the Richard Nickerson Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to selected WHS choral students who choose to pursue music as part of their college experience. A group of parents formed the Richard Nickerson Scholarship Committee in 1997 following the Windham Chamber Singers’ award-winning performance at the 1996 International Youth and Music Festival. The committee has since awarded grants to ten of Nickerson’s deserving students.

General admission tickets (adults: $8, students and seniors: $6) will be available at the door. The snow date for the concert is Jan. 8 at 3 p.m. For more information, call 655-3750.
