On March 6, the Gorham Recreation Department held its 5th and 6th grade championship basketball games at the Shaw Gym.

In the boys title game, New York repeated as back-to-back champions with a 50-33 victory over Indiana. Jon Woods led a balanced New York attack with 21 points and Dylan Turner helped out with 11 points. Ryan Cota did a great job rebounding along with his six points. For Indiana, Nick Greatorex (14 points) and Jesse Leavitt (11 points) did all they could to keep it close, but New York had too much firepower.

For the girls, top seed and undefeated Chicago had their hands full against No. 3 Washington. The game was close all the way until the fourth quarter when Chicago managed to slip away and win by a final score of 30-22. Washington was led by Lindsey Babcock (eight points), Abby Perkins (seven points), and Krystal King (six points). Jessica Rexrode (18 points) had a monster game for Chicago while Samantha Doughty and Samantha Robinson pitched in with six and four points respectively.
