Friends book sale nears

The Friends of Baxter Memorial Library will hold its spring book sale Friday, April 11, from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m-1 p.m., at the Gorham Municipal Center Activities Room next door to the library.

A special “members only” evening will be held for Friends Group members on Thursday, April 10, from 5-7 p.m. New members can join at the door.

The Friends of Baxter Memorial Library do not store books between book sales, so each sale has a new crop of donations. Thousands of books will be available.

Mattingly GB&CE speaker

Matt Mattingly will speak at the annual meeting of the Gorham Business & Civic Exchange at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, at the Gorham Savings Bank Operations Center, 10 Wentworth Drive.

Mattingly owns the PineCrest Inn, 91 South St. He acquired the business in 2005 and since has increased business 350 percent.

The meeting will include the annual election of the exchange’s board of directors. Members and guests are invited to attend. A free, light reakfast will be served.

Woman’s club to meet

The Gorham Woman’s Club will meet on Thursday, April 10, at the First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St..

Refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m. with a program and meeting starting at 1 p.m. Enrollment is open and guests are always welcome to any meeting. For information about this meeting or the Gorham Woman’s Club, call Alice Keddy at 839-4579.

‘Westward Ho’ concert

Casco Bay Concert Band will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, in the auditorium at Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave. The concert theme is “Westward Ho.”

On merit list

Peter Van De Krol of Gorham was named to the merit list of Oxford College, a division of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the spring semester. He is the son of Barbara A. Van de Krol and Andrew J. Van de Krol.

Academic honor

Holly Benson has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Norwich University, Northfield, Vt.
