Lentz, Bates engaged

Michael and June Lentz of Westbrook have announced the engagement of their daughter, Danielle J. Lentz, to Abraham A. Bates, son of Ronald and Kathleen Bates of Dedham.

They will be married on Oct. 6, 2012.

Danielle is a 2011 graduate of The University of Southern Maine and is a sales representative for Liberty Mutual. Abraham is self-employed at Bates Construction.

The couple will reside in the Portland area.

Libby woman’s clubs nominee

Mary K. Libby, president of the Westbrook Woman’s Club, was nominated to become vice president of the GFWC/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs for the 2012-2014 term at the fall conference held recently at Merry Manor Inn in South Portland.

Others attending the two-day event were Norma Manning, first vice president; Roberta Morrill, second vice president; Carol Quint, recording secretary; Nancy Curran, corresponding secretary; Ethelyn Chase, chapter historian; and members Patricia Currier, Marian Sturtevant, and Rowena Walton.

Babs Condon, General Federation of Women’s Clubs first vice president, shared a video of her trip to the Philippines where she participated as a member of the Operation Smile mission trip team. Operation Smile provides surgery for children with cleft palates and other facial deformities and is just one of many projects supported by GFWC clubs nationwide.

Duddy entertaining seniors

Maine country entertainer Jose Duddy will perform when Westbrook Senior Citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, in the Westbrook Community Center on Bridge Street.

The seniors have announced two upcoming trips.

The group will travel for a Christmas show on Sunday, Nov. 27, at Indian Head in Lincoln, N.H.

Then, it will ride to the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee, Mass., on Wednesday, Dec. 7, for a Polynesian holiday dinner show followed by a spectacular Christmas lights display.

Autoharp concert

Drew Smith, an international autoharp player, will perform in a service 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Highland Lake Congregational Church, 1303 Bridgton Road, in Westbrook. Admission is free; a free will offering will be accepted.

Smith, who has won international awards, has performed at Lincoln Center in New York City besides 18 performances at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and 31 appearances at the Galax Fiddlers Convention in Virginia.
