Lewiston’s and TA’s athletes put together outstanding showings; each school claimed a number of individual state crowns. They weren’t the only ones, however: Athletes from a plethora of schools performed impressively, including South Portland’s Daniel Guiliani, who won the shot put and, in the process, smashed a decades-old record. Teammate Michael Cuesta also had a good day, winning the long jump by almost 2 feet, and fellow Riots Lauren Magnuson and Juliana Selser anchored the girls’ squad. Magnuson had multiple top-three finishes, and Selser, just a freshman, won the 800.

Maxim Doiron and Griffin Madden made Scarborough proud on the track, as did the school’s 4×800 relay team; Sam Rusak and Edward James went two-three in the pole vault, and Hugh McSorley took third in the shot put. Ellen Shaw, Sarah Rinaldi and Laura Volan represented the Lady Storm especially well, and the girls 4×800 team looked impressive as well.

Gorham’s Drew York grabbed 10 points for the Rams by winning the race walk – in fact, Gorham had three boy race-walkers finish in the top seven. Among the Lady Rams, Anna Slager had yet another beautiful day, winning the 1600 and taking second in the 3200. Likewise, Hayley Bickford took second in the race walk.

Westbrook’s Maurice Johnson had a strong day, as he typically does, and the girls 4×800 relay squad also performed well.

Bonny Eagle’s Eddie Maxwell finished sixth in the javelin, earning two of the school’s points, and Elisabeth Redwood did the same in the 200. Kyuanna Libby finished third in the 800 and Kialeigh Marston second in the 1600.

Windham’s Ernie Ruby finished fifth in the 100 and seventh in the 300 Hurdles, and Alexis Wintle won the High Jump.
