The Town Office, at Mallett Hall, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday 8:30 a.m.-6:30 and closed Friday. The office will be closed for Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26.

Meetings

The Pownal Planning Board meets Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

The Pownal Board of Selectmen will meet Monday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m., at Mallett Hall.

A Pownal Planning Board workshop on the back-lot ordinance will be held Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 8 a.m., at Mallett Hall.

Scenic & Historical Society annual meeting set

The Pownal Scenic & Historical Society urges all members to attend its 45th annual meeting and election of officers, Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., in the DeWitt Room, Mallett Hall, Route 9, Pownal Center.

The meeting will review projects and budget for the current year. Members will act on proposed projects and a budget for 2016, and will elect a new slate of officers. It will usher in a new era as Donna Boyles, president, and Jim Boyles, treasurer, retire and younger members assume leadership roles in the society. The newly established Marjorie Keith Alward Mason Archive (located first floor in original part of Mallett Hall) will be open for viewing.

Church readies Christmas fair

The North Pownal United Methodist Church annual Christmas fair will be held Friday, Dec. 4, from 3-8 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the church,

851 Lawrence Road. The fair features crafts, handmade items, baked goods, the Candy Cane Cafe? and more. Table rental is $30.

Food available includes Zuppa Soup, fish chowder, Friendship Soup, hot dogs, Italian sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken, ham, egg and tuna salad, beans and hot dogs, tea, coffee, punch, water, apple cider, hot chocolate and gingerbread with whipped topping. FSH seniors set auction, fruit fundraisers

The Freeport High School senior class is conducting two fundraisers this month to help provide safe, chem-free senior week activities in June.

An online auction is ongoing during November. New items are being added almost daily, so check the site often. The auction can be found at www.fhsonlineauction.com.

The senior class is also selling fresh grapefruit, oranges and tangerines. A large box of navel oranges (contains some seeds) costs $43, small box, $25. A large box of red grapefruit costs $38, small box, $24. A small box of tangerines is $32. A small variety box is $35, and includes 16-20 oranges, 10 tangerines and six grapefruit. Large boxes are approximately 36-40 pounds, and small boxes are approximately 18-20 pounds. Orders are due by Monday, Nov. 23. Delivery will likely be Dec. 12.

Scouting for Food Drive Nov. 21

The Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of Freeport and Pownal are teaming up again for Scouting for Food Drive, where they will collect non-perishable food, personal care items, and paper goods for the Freeport Community Services Food Pantry, 53 Depot St. in Freeport. The food pantry serves both Freeport and Pownal residents.

On Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Scouts will collect food and other items that residents will leave them outside their door. Last year the Scouts collected 2,284 pounds of food during this event. The Scouting for Food Drive happens right before Thanksgiving, and is a key event that helps fill holiday baskets with all of the festive necessities. Food pantry on Wednesdays

The North Pownal United Methodist Church Food Pantry on 851 Lawrence Road is now open every Wednesday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The pantry never knows from week to week what it will be getting. Fellowship, coffee and snacks are served before food distribution. The pantry helps those in need and welcomes everyone. Donations are appreciated. The church office number is 688-4938.

Men’s breakfast

First Parish Church of Pownal hosts a Men’s Breakfast the first Saturday of each month, at 7:30 a.m., at the church, open to any men who want to come, regardless of affiliation. The Rev. John Wentworth leads the discussions.

The First Parish Congregational Church, Route 9, worship service is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Sunday School for all ages is 11 a.m.-noon.
