The old Odd Fellows Hall shown in the photo at the left was built in 1883 on Main Street between Central and Mechanic streets.

The original building was three stories with a large attic with the third floor and attic taken down years ago for safety reasons.

Over the years, this building housed among others the Brook’s Theatre, Zahara’s Catering Service, a Maine state liquor store, Lane’s Automotive Store and American Legion Post 197, which was the last owner of the building before it was taken and demolished by Urban Renewal.

The American Legion Post relocated to a new building at 300 Conant St. The Hub Furniture store now occupies the site where this building stood.
