A fire severely damaged a Briarwood Road home on Tuesday just before noon. No injuries were reported.

The Gorham Fire Department received the alarm at 11:55 a.m. According to neighbor Tim Mulligan, the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.

Homeowner Jaclyn Ashla’s son was home when the fire started. He said he was downstairs when he heard breaking glass.

“I heard glass shattering and I heard a beep,” he said.

When he went upstairs to investigate, he discovered the fire.

Gorham Fire Chief Bob Lefebvre said the cause of the fire is not yet known. “It’s under investigation. The fire marshal’s office is going to assist us,” he said at the scene.

The chief declined to comment on the nature of the damage to the split-level home, saying only that it was “extensive”.

“It’s going to be a while before we come to any conclusions,” said Lefebvre.
