WESTBROOK – Chris LaRouche is the new executive director of Westbrook Housing.
LaRouche, whose first day is Friday, Feb. 1, replaces John Gallagher, who was executive director for 13 years before being asked to serve as director of the Maine State Housing Authority in October.
LaRoche, from Alfred, most recently served as the housing director of the York County Community Action Corp. for the last 11 years.
Prior to his role in affordable housing, where he also fostered relationships with Maine Affordable Housing Coalition and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston Advisory Council, LaRoche served as a priest for Portland’s Roman Catholic Diocese and as an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore.
Westbrook Housing provides affordable and market-rate apartments to seniors, low-income families, people with disabilities, individuals, and couples.
It has developed condominium projects, including Riverfront Lofts and 917 Main St., and rental projects, such as Mill Brook Estates, Larrabee Heights and Prescumpscot Commons. Its budget is just more than $9 million and has 33 full-time and three part-time employees.
