Dostie on dean’s list

Rachelle Dostie received an associates degree, graduating summa cum laude in May commencement exercises at the School of Technology at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I.

Dostie also was named to the dean’s list for the spring term. Dostie is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in computer graphics.

Seniors meal takes a break

This week’s senior meal on Wednesday, June 29, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church marks the end of the season. The meals will resume in the fall.

Clifton Hall of 269 Main St. recently donated a collection of 101 antique post cards to the Gorham Historical Society.

The cards depict historic sites in Gorham.

Garden Club fundraiser

The Gorham Garden Club is sponsoring a fundraising event, “A Summer Afternoon in the Garden,” from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, at Treworgy Gardens, 120 Flaggy Meadow Road.

There will be six artists painting in the garden and Dr. Rick Churchill will be on hand to tour the garden and answer gardening questions. Perennial plants and artwork will be for sale.

Tickets are $20 and must be purchased in advance at O’Donal’s Nurseries or Ossippee Trail Gardens, both in Gorham, or by calling 839-3878.

St. Anne’s summer schedule

Rev. Lawrence J. Conley, pastor of St. Anne’s Church and Our Lady’s Chapel, has announced a new schedule of Liturgies beginning this weekend, July 2 and 3.

The Mass schedule for St. Anne’s, 299 Main St., Gorham, will be at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 8:30 a.m. on Sundays. Masses will be at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays at the summer chapel on Route 114 in East Sebago.

The summer schedule continues through Labor Day weekend on Sept. 3 and 4. All are welcome at the summer liturgies.

North Gorham Library summer program

All the children who participate in the summer reading program will receive a reading program certificate and free tickets for Sea Dogs baseball and the Seashore Trolley Museum.

50 years ago

The Westbrook American reported in its issue of June 29, 1955, that Cpl. Elwood Chapman, USMC, is spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Warden and Mrs. Clifford Chapman before reporting to Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Chapman had just returned from 18 months of duty in Cuba.
