Shoppers looking to go to Rite Aid last Friday afternoon were greeted with an unusual sight – a red minivan sticking out of the store’s entrance.

No one was injured in the accident, which police said occurred while a 74-year-old Westbrook man was trying to park the van. Police said Merrill Lyons of Walker Street was pulling into a parking space by the front doors when his foot accidentally slipped off the brake. The van went over the curb and hit the front doors of the store, said police.

Lyons and his passenger, Priscilla Lyons, 70, were not injured in the accident. Police said there was only about $150 of damage to the van, and there will be no summonses issued in connection with the accident.
