The Cape Elizabeth boys Nordic ski team won last week’s 5K Classical race over Maranacook, but the Black Bears won the overall Nordic title thanks to their first place effort in the freestyle portion of Class B state championship.
Cape’s Graham Egan finished first in the 5K classical race with a time of 14:26.5 and teammate Stanis Moody-Roberts wasn’t far behind, placing third in 14:54.0. The Capers also had an eighth-place effort from Tike MacColl and a 22nd place finish from Bobby Yokabaskas.
That Cape foursome scored 34 points, one point better than second-place Maranacook in the classical race.
Other Cape competitors included Spencer Howe and Michael Takach.
The Nordic freestyle race on Monday, Feb. 19, went to Maranacook, which is where they separated themselves from the rest of the pack. The Black Bears scored 21 points to top Cape Elizabeth (36), Yarmouth (50), Caribou (74), and Greely (87).
Once again it was Egan winning the race, this one in a time of 13:42.3 with Moody-Roberts placing second in 14:03.7. MacColl was 15th and Yokabaskas took 18th. But Maranacook had skiers in the top seven to take this event and ultimately the combined Nordic crown.
The final Nordic scores had Maranacook with 56 points followed by Cape Elizabeth (70), Yarmouth (112), Caribou (136), and Greely (142) at the top of the 11-team field.
Cape’s Emily Attwood placed second in the girls freestyle race (17:23.8). Erin Hatton finished seventh, McKayla Dunfey placed 19th and Abby Attwod took 26th.
