Seniors to dine, travel
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet to eat at noon on Monday, March 17, in the Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St.
A corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served followed by a meeting at 1 p.m. Don and Cindy Roy will sing.
The seniors are planning a trip to Amesbury Playhouse, Amesbury, Mass., on Sunday, April 6, to see “Don’t Dress for Dinner.”
Winning the gold
The Drouin Dance Center Dance Company of Westbrook competed at the Starquest International Dance Challenge in Andover, Mass. Feb. 29-March 2 and came home with five Gold Medals, one High Silver Medal and recognition for Outstanding Costume.
The tap duet, “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” danced by Isis Clark, age 7, and Jada Libby, age 6, placed second overall. The Dance Company dancers are Isis Clark, Brittany Freeman, Ashley Harriman, Aidan Rodier, Abby St. Clair, and Mikala Varela of Westbrook; Jada Libby of Windham; and Valorie Lake of Portland.
Next up for the dance company is the Showstopper National Dance Competition in Brockton, Mass. March 28-30; Olympic Miss Dance Performing Arts Competition, April 27; and the Turn it Up Dance Challenge May 4.
Art show winners
The Westbrook Woman’s Club presented its High School Art Show awards Thursday in a ceremony at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center.
The winners were Matt Pinkham, junior, first; Shane Carson, senior, second place; Joseph Lagu, freshman, third; and Amy McInture, senior, honorable mention. With his first place, Pinkham earned $25; Carson, $15; and Lagu, $10.
The artwork by the four Westbrook winners will be entered in the Maine Woman’s Club district art show on April 19 in Gorham. The top four in the district competition will compete in the state art show May 6-7 in Ellsworth.
Studying abroad
Hilary Dugas, daughter of Eric and Junie Dugas, has made the dean’s list for the fall semester at the University of Maine. She has also received a Presidential Academic Achievement Pin awarded by the president of the university in recognition of her achievement, according to her mother.
Dugas is a senior and this semester is studying at Lancaster University in Bailrigg, Lancaster, in England. She is majoring in broadcast journalism.
Earns degree
Rus Willette, Westbrook, earned a bachelor of science degree in human services at Springfield College, Springfield, Mass. Willette completed his studies at the college in December.
On dean’s list
Benjamin P. Knight has been named to the dean’s list at Colby College, Waterville, for the fall semester.
A junior, Knight is the son of Margaret Knight, Westbrook, and Jonathan Knight, Worcester, Mass. He is a mathematics and Spanish major. Knight graduated Westbrook High School.
Filling food banks
Curves of Westbrook/Portland is participating in the Curves Food Drive to benefit local food banks. Through Saturday, Curves is offering a discounted service fee for any new member who brings in a bag of non-perishable groceries and commits to a 12-month membership.
Others wishing to donate can drop off non-perishable food items at Curves Monday through Friday during business hours through March. For more information, contact Beth Woodbury at 408-5742
