Do you think drunk driving is a problem in the Lakes Region?

Bob Sharon McFarland, 66 and 62, Canton, OH

“It’s a problem everywhere, not just here. There is a growing drinking and driving problem in our area of Ohio. Every spring it’s the same thing. It seems like it’s a cycle. Kids are spreading their wings.”

Jessi Rich, 14, Gorham

“I think drunk driving is a problem. Even if we have just one drunk driver that’s one too many. They drill it into our heads in school, like it’s an imprint on our brain. The only reason kids drink is to be cool. It’s like an initiation into adulthood.”

Carmen Landry, 40, Windham

“Yes, anyplace where there are long roads and not enough county sheriffs to cover these backroads, you’re going to have problems with not only drunk driving but speeders and people playing games on the road.”

Ben Magur, 16, Raymond

“I’d say there are an average amount of parties in the Lakes Region. I think that it’s probably a problem but it’s so under the table that most people don’t know about it. I think it’s people wanting to fit in socially, and some people don’t have the social skills so they feel to fit in they have to drink.”

Lori Fontaine, 44, Raymond

“I don’t see a problem of it out here in Raymond. They do road blocks and maybe they should do more of those surprise sobriety road blocks. Spot checks just to see what the increase out here in the Lakes Region is. But kids always want to try things and they really shouldn’t. Drinking and driving doesn’t mix.”

Mark Dunton, 45, Gray

“No, I don’t think it’s a problem. There aren’t as many bars around as there used to be.”
