The barbecue pits will be hot Saturday, July 23, at the Friends’ Church on Route 202 in Windham, as the local Historical Society hosts a chicken barbecue, with potato salad, cole slaw and brownies. Cost is $6.50 and the event begins at 4 p.m.

The Friends’ Church is across from Windham Human Services, just below Windham Center. Those attending may pay at the event.

Other Society events:

On Monday, July 25, members and the public are invited to meet at 6 p.m. at the museum on Windham Center Road (old brick town house) for a trip to a restored one room schoolhouse in Gray.

In August, an Open House will be held at the newly renovated Old Grocery, across from Corsetti’s in Windham Center. The horse-drawn town hearse will be on display as well as many other artifacts from the town’s past.

The Historical Society, founded in 1967, is also planning an October 8 Heirloom Appraisal Day at the Windham Public Library.
