Harnois art show winner
Westbrook High School senior Maggie Harnois on Tuesday was named winner of the Westbrook Woman’s Club annual art show held at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.
Harnois was presented a ribbon and a check for $25.
Second place went to Kaitlyn Hutchins, a junior, and received $15; senior Samm Russell, third, $10; and senior Leah Driesen, honorable mention, $5.
The art show drew 31 entries.
Janet Crawford, principal of Congin School, spoke on behalf of Superintendent Marc Gouse, who was out of town. Crawford said she is proud of the art produced for the show. “I’m just amazed at what the students can do,” Crawford said.
Baker sets concert venue meeting
The city of Westbrook is seeking public input on the opportunity to construct an outdoor concert venue at Riverbank Park that would operate between May and September.
Bill Baker, assistant city administrator, will host an informational meeting next week to explain the concept and answer questions. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, in City Council Chambers, Room 114 at Westbrook High School.
Prior to the concert venue discussion, Baker will also host a meeting, intended for downtown business-owners only, for further discussion on the city becoming a Maine Downtown Network, a vehicle for economic development.
WHS class of ’79 to reunite
The 1979 Westbrook High School graduating class will be celebrating its 35th reunion on Saturday, June 28, at 6 p.m. at the Stockhouse Restaurant in Westbrook.

‘Too Much on Your Plate’ library program
Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., will host the program “Too Much on Your Plate” – a how-to on de-stressing and improving your life – at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 20.
It will be presented by Deb Bergeron, a certified personal and professional life coach. The program is free and open to the public.
The program focuses at how lives become more frenzied and complex with demands of work, family and home. “Deb will provide you with effective tools to set priorities, slow down, access inner calm, and gain clarity and effectiveness to transform worry and overwhelm into confidence and joy – even on the most difficult days,” the library said in a statement.

Avita to host Alzheimer’s workshop
Avita of Stroudwater, a new assisted-living community in Westbrook at 320 Spring St., will host a workshop from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, discussing early detection of Alzheimer’s.
The interactive workshop will be presented by representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association. If you know someone experiencing memory loss or behavioral changes, this class will offer the 10 early detection signs to look for. Early detection of Alzheimer’s is key because it allows time for drug therapy, clinical studies and for making future plans.
The free event will include video clips, a Q&A and handouts. Refreshments will also be served.
