The city’s been abuzz for weeks about Saturday’s “Gentlemen of the Road Stopover” festival featuring Mumford & Sons and about a half-dozen other bands.
As many as 16,000 people are expected to converge on the Eastern Promenade for seven hours of music and merry-making, and a number of other events have been planned to coincide with the fest, including a house-decorating party and an intimate show by Mumford & Sons on Friday at Bull Moose Music in Scarborough.
If you weren’t able to snag a ticket to the sold-out festival or Friday’s pre-show, there’s still a chance to catch some of the GOTR musicians at five “official” after-parties taking place around Portland.
Here’s the low-down:
SPACE GALLERY, 538 Congress St.: Ben Lovett, who plays drums, accordion and keyboards for Mumford & Sons, will DJ a set at this after-party, which begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 to this 18-and-older show. space538.org
THE BIG EASY, 55 Market St., will feature Winston Marshall, guitar/dobro/banjo player for Mumford & Sons, along with GOTR emcee Reggie Watts and local reggae band Royal Hammer. This 21-and-older party begins at 8 p.m., and admission is $5. bigeasyportland.com
EMPIRE DINE AND DANCE, 575 Congress St., features Boston funk band Miss Fairchild and “special guests” from the festival to be announced. This 21-and-older show costs $5, and begins at 9 p.m. portlandempire.com
PORT CITY MUSIC HALL, 504 Congress St., will feature singer-songwriter Aaron Embry and New Hampshire band Tan Vampires at 10 p.m., plus “special guests” from the GOTR fest. Admission to this 18-and-older show is $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP seating. portcitymusichall.com
STATE THEATRE, 609 Congress St., saves the best for last with a full-blown concert featuring GOTR band Dropkick Murphys at 10:30 p.m. The Parkington Sisters open. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 day of show. statetheatreportland.com
