GORHAM – The Gorham School Department would add all-day kindergarten in a proposed $34.3 million budget, up $1.4 million from this year’s $32.9 million.

Superintendent Ted Sharp handed his proposed budget to Gorham School Committee members on Feb. 12. Using preliminary figures, the proposed budget would raise the tax rate for Gorham property owners by 84 cents per $1,000 of valuation.

Gorham now has a half-day kindergarten at its three elementary schools. Sharp said the all-day schedule increases his proposed budget $552,000. The kindergarten change follows a plea in recent years from a number of parents advocating an all-day program.

School officials will review Sharp’s spending plan in an all-day workshop on Saturday, March 1.
