A special screening day will be held Thursday, April 30, at Leavitt’s Mill Free Health Center in Buxton and Southern Maine Medical Center Women’s Center in Biddeford. The 1:30-5:30 p.m. event will provide eligible women with free Pap tests and mammograms on the same day.

Women will also receive a $15 gas card to pay for the travel from Leavitt’s Mill Free Health Center, 63 Main St., Bar Mills, to Southern Maine Medical Center.

Medical exams, Pap tests and mammograms, plus the gas card, will be provided at no cost to women who are between ages of 40 and 64, have no insurance or have insurance with a high deductible and meet certain income guidelines.

Eligible women will receive a clinical exam by a nurse practitioner, and a Pap test at Leavitt’s Mill Free Health Center in Buxton. Mammograms will be scheduled immediately following this in Biddeford, at SMMC Women’s Center.

Screening services are made possible with funding from the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program; the Program is administered by SMMC Visiting Nurses. Once enrolled in MBCHP, women can have a free clinical exam and mammogram each year, as long as they continue to meet the income and insurance criteria.

Preregistration is required. For more information or for an appointment, call 985-1028.
