The Concerned Citizens of Reed Street, a neighborhood organization of 45 (at last count) owners of properties on Reed Street and Route 302, each of which abuts the recently proposed development presented by Community Housing of Maine, wish to thank each of the members of the Planning Board for their thoughtful attention to life-safety concerns for not only those who live adjacent to the property in question, but for all who travel through the intersection of Route 302 and Reed Street.
We especially thank Luc Bergeron, Brian Beattie, Rene Daniel, and Anna Wrobel for having the insight and courage to challenge the traffic study commissioned by the developer, recognizing that selectively applied theories and projections don’t always provide an accurate portrayal of the future.
We acknowledge and accept that the subject property will, most likely, be developed in the near term. We hope that the Planning Board supports our position that any development proposal of the same magnitude as the one it recently denied should not depend on Reed Street as its access to Route 302.
The city of Westbrook should be proud of its Planning Board for its demonstrated commitment to the health, safety, and well being of its citizens.
