Bonny Eagle junior Hannah Branch was one of only three athletes to win two events at Saturday’s New England High School Swim Championships.

“The competition was really fast,” Branch said. “It was a great meet and I had a lot of fun.”

This year’s event was the first-ever New England-wide girls meet, and the first boys meet of the kind since 1982. Three of the six states in the region sent swimmers, and Maine was represented by participants from 24 schools.

The Pine Tree State won 14 of 24 events, led by five relay wins from Mount Desert Island.

Branch took first in the 200-yard individual medley by more than four seconds and then topped the field in the 100 butterly, in which she is also state champ, by more than two seconds.

“I had a really good time,” Branch said. “It’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”

Westbrook was represented by Matt Violette, Jake Wilson, Kyle Goan and Ian Oliver. Violette had his squad’s best finishes when he took third in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 IM. Wilson finished sixth in each of those two events.
