Hannah Holmes, will sign copies of her book, “Suburban Safari: A Year on The Lawn,” Saturday, April 8, from noon to 2 p.m. at Nonesuch Books & Cards at the Mill Creek Shopping Center in South Portland. 799-2659.
Holmes spent a year studying the life in and around her South Portland backyard. The result is an entertaining and enlightening look at the world around us. Just released in paperback, Suburban Safari won praise from reviewers and was picked by Entertainment Weekly as No. 3 in their 10 best non-fiction books of 2005.
Holmes is also the author of “The Secret Life of Dust.” Her science and travel writing has appeared in publications including the New York Times Magazine, Outside, Sierra, and the Los Angeles Times Magazine. She lives in South Portland.
