Industry was once a big part of Windham. This is a view of the Androscoggin Pulp Mill taken in the early part of the 1900s. For decades, this industry provided employment to hundreds of Windham residents. Eventually the mill was abandoned and the site, adjacent to the Presumpscot River in South Windham, was purchased by Avesta Housing. That firm is building a senior housing facility, and plans for the future include more housing. In the 1700s, this was the place where a second saw mill was located.
