Cape Elizabeth, June 8……. Thirty Cape gardeners joined Inn By The Sea head gardener Derrick Daly to enjoy a spectacular spring garden tour of McLaughlin Garden in South Paris, Maine on Thursday May 31. The public garden celebrated its tenth annual lilac festival with a brilliant display of early blooms in purple and pink.
Bernard McLaughlin opened the gates to his three acre perennial garden three decades ago and has been welcoming gardening enthusiasts to enjoy the extensive lilac and wildflower garden ever since. Maintaining Mr.. McLaughlin’s original personal plan for planting, the garden offers visitors a colorful taste of Maine. The gardens are known for several varieties of hosta, sedum, semprevivum, daylily, astilbe and iris. This trip Cape gardeners enjoyed several Lilac varieties as well as abundant phlox and brilliant Tri Color Beech.
