Ever since our Maine Gardener columnist Tom Atwell wrote about the edible perennial plants at Edgewood Nursery in 2015, we’ve been wanting to check out these Falmouth gardens. Turns out the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association has the same idea: Edgewood is the first stop on its summer schedule for Gather & Grow. Those are tours of gardens, homesteads, woodlots and farms, running between now and the end of August.
There is no charge for the Tuesday evening tour (but donations are welcomed to support MOFGA’s programming), which promises a look at Aaron Parker’s nursery, where he grows more than 100 edible perennials using permaculture methods. Some of these plants you may have heard of, or even have, like hostas, but others are a little more exotic, like Chinese toon.
Other tours later this summer include a look at a woodlot in Cumberland and a homestead with the primary function of managing land for wildlife.
