A young mother from Massachusetts was arrested Wednesday morning after she crashed her sport utility vehicle into a tree, injuring one of her children, who was not in a car seat.
Jacquelyn Griffin, 30, of Plainsville, Massachusetts, was leaving a lake house on Lake Arrowhead in Waterboro when her 1997 Chevrolet Suburban went off the road and hit a tree, York County Sheriff William L. King Jr. said in a news release.
King said the collision injured one child who was not properly secured in a car seat. That child, a boy whose age was not disclosed, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Another of Griffin’s children in the vehicle when it crashed on Crescent Drive around 9:45 a.m. was not injured.
King said that Griffin was charged with aggravated driving to endanger, a class C crime. She was held Wednesday night at the York County Jail on $1,500 cash bail.
Maine law requires that all children who weigh less than 40 pounds be secured in a child safety seat. Children who weigh at least 40 pounds, but less than 80 pounds and under the age of 8, must be secured in a federally approved child restraint system.
